INPERSON Reaching New Heights Peters Township gym manager Cory Huminksy plans to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro this summer with two other cancer survivors as part of the Cancer Climber Association. BY NICOLE TAFE C ory Huminsky, 30, is ready to defy the odds. This summer, Cory—a pediatric lung cancer survivor—will be pushing her body to its limits by climbing Africa’s tallest peak on an expedition to Mt. Kilimanjaro. Cory is married to her husband, Ben, and is the daughter of Allen and Dana Berliner who own Anytime Fitness in McMurray. Cory is originally from Fort Collins, CO, and moved to Pittsburgh when she was recruited to play fastpitch softball for the University of Pittsburgh from 2007-2011 on a full athletic scholarship. She was their starting pitcher all four years, and almost nine years later she still holds the career ERA record 36 724.942.0940 TO ADVERTISE ❘ Cory with her parents Allen and Dana Berliner. and ranks in the top five for 13 of the 17 pitching record categories. Cory went on to The Ohio State University and got her masters in Public Health where she studied infectious diseases, obesity, care for the aging population and the benefits of exercise. Returning to McMurray, she icmags.com decided to join her parents in managing/ owning the Anytime Fitness and pursuing her personal training certification. Cory has worked there for 7 of the 10 years the facility has been open and has helped to keep the gym repeatedly ranked in the top 5 percent of all Anytime Fitness locations nationwide. In her spare time, Cory also gives softball pitching lessons, instructs private and group pitching lessons at CSide Sports Academy in Washington, was the varsity softball pitching coach for three years at Peters Township High School, and this year she took on the pitching coach position at Washington & Jefferson College. “Two members of my gym recently climbed Mt.
