NEWS FROM
THE PETERS TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT
Peters Township Citizen’s Police Academy
The Peters Township Police Department will provide an opportunity for members of the community to become closely
acquainted with the roles and responsibilities of the Police Department. The Peters Township Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) will
bring the police and the community close together in a setting that offers a sample of police training to each participant. The
CPA program is intended to expand a citizen’s knowledge and understanding of the law, explore police procedures from the
perspective of the Peters Township Police Department and to give the community a better understanding of what we do, how
we do it and why we do it. The course will be free, is in a classroom setting and will not involve running or physical activity.
We anticipate a start date in early May. Please watch for information on the Township website and Facebook pages in the
next month.
New Technological Tools of the Peters Township
Police Department
The Peters Township Police Department and LexisNexis Risk Solutions, recently partnered to provide a new way for
the public to stay informed about crime in Peters Township. The Peters Township Police Department now has an online
crime map called Community Crime Map (communitycrimemap.com) that maps and analyzes crime data, alerts Peters
Township citizens about crimes in their area and allows the Peters Township Police Department to quickly alert the
public about crimes as they occur.
Peters Township citizens can view a map and grid with all of the crimes in their area, sign up for neighborhood watch
reports that automatically email a breakdown of recent crime activity and submit an anonymous tip about a crime
directly to their law enforcement agency. Community Crime Map automatically syncs with the Peters Township Police
Department’s records system to keep crime information updated online. Community Crime Map cleans and geocodes
the crime data, then displays all of the incidents on a map, grid and analytics dashboard along with some basic
information about the incidents, including the type of crime, location type, block-level address, date and time.
FACEBOOK
In addition, the Peters Township Police Department recently started its own Facebook page.
Created at the beginning of 2017, this page has already been used to alert the public about
significant incidents and give them information on a number of public safety related topics. This
webpage gives our department a large forum to connect with the community and to see how
different topics affect their lives. This webpage also connects to our Community Crime Map and
Township websites. It can be reached at facebook.com/PetersTownshipPolice.
Facebook has substantial potential in getting information out to the public in a quick and
efficient way. Both Facebook and our Crime Mapping Software will provide our department with
valuable tools for public relations.
