Penn Hills
The Water Pollution
Control Department of the
Municipality is having contractors
perform 135 sewer repairs by
excavation and 265 internal lining
sewer repairs throughout the
Municipality in 2014. Internal
sewer lining allows the contractor
to avoid excavation and property
disturbance. The contractors
will take photographs of areas
where possible excavation and
repair will take place to document
the undisturbed property. The
contractor will then restore the
property to its original condition after repairs are made. Residents
will be notified in advance before any property is disturbed.
Jet Jack, Inc. will be performing inspections by closed circuit
televising which allows the Municipality to assess the sewer lines
for possible repair. Jet Jack, Inc. trucks are clearly marked and all
residents will be notified in advance before work is conducted near
their property.
The purpose of this activity is to improve the Penn Hills sewer
system, reducing overflows, household backups and protecting the
environment. The Municipality appreciates your patience. If you
should have any questions, please call the Water Pollution Control
Dept. at 412.798.2171.
The Second Annual Electronic Waste Collection will be
held at the Penn Hills Dept. of Public Works Facility, 6600
Leechburg Rd. on Saturday, July 25, 9:00a.m. – 1:00p.m.
Electronic Waste (E-Waste) includes items such as computers,
monitors, printers, fax machines, VCRs, DVD players, stereo systems,
cell phones, digital cameras and microwaves. As of January 2013,
state law forbids these electronics to being dumped in landfills. The
E-waste CANNOT be placed at the curb for pick-up by the garbage
hauler.
The Municipality will team up again with Goodwill Industries
for the E-Waste Collection event. Last year, 5.42 tons of E-Waste was
collected in the one-day event at the Public Works Facility.
Good, working computers can also be donated to Goodwill
Industries where they are refurbished and sold in their stores.
Goodwill, however, will not be responsible or liable for personal
data on hard drives or other storage media. If you wish to remove
the data before donating a computer, a number of free services are
available online that will completely erase the hard drive.
Stores which sell electronic devices may have recycling
programs that will accept your obsolete electronics, but check
first to confirm. Other drop-off locations include: Best Buy, eLoop,
Construction Junction and Guardian Storage. Call for more
information. St. Vincent de Paul will accept working computers
only.
