R I V E R C I T Y B R A S S B R I N G S S I G N AT U R E S T Y L E TO NORWIN HIGH SCHOOL ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2018 iver City Brass, America’s favorite brass band, will present an extravaganza concert at Norwin School District at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2018, at the Norwin High School Auditorium. The Norwin School District Community Foundation and the Norwin Alumni and Friends Association are presenting the concert, which is titled, “The Magic of Christmas!” Founded in 1981 by the late Robert Bernat (conductor and music director 1981-1994), the River City Brass was the first professional concert band to be established in the United States in over 25 years. Today, River City Brass performs a 35-concert series in Western Pennsylvania. Often called the “Boston Pops - In Brass,” River City Brass won the 2018 Readers’ Choice Gold Award for Family Entertainment from Trib Total Media. The concert will include traditional carols mixed with jazz and popular songs of the season and will be fun for audiences of all ages. Also joining the River City Brass will be the Norwin High School Chamber Singers (directed by Mrs. Lauren Scheirer) and the Bel Canto Women’s Choir and Show Choir (directed by Mrs. Bridget Faulk), who will be combining to provide vocal accompaniment during select pieces. “This event will leave every audience member in the greatest of spirits for the upcoming holiday season,” said Dr. John Boylan, President of the Norwin School District Community Foundation. Norwin Middle School music teacher Mr. Ross Cohen has played the baritone with River City Brass since 2007. He has been part of the Norwin School District since 2016. He earned a Bachelor’s of Music Education from Penn State University and a Master’s of Music Performance from the University of Georgia.
