MARCHING BAND HIGHLIGHTS T he Norwin Marching Band’s 2016 production is entitled “con4mity” and explores the idea of conforming and breaking away through the use of music and color. Musical selections include “New World Symphony” by Antonin Dvorchak, “9th Symphony” by Beethoven, “The Hanging Tree” by James Newton Howard, “Code Name Vivaldi” by The Piano Guys, and “Real Rain” by Randy Newman. The band also performed a halftime show at all football games featuring music from “The Incredibles,”“Frozen,” and “Despicable Me 2.” The Band began their competitive season at the Kiski Band Competition on September 10th. The band then competed at the Bands of America Regional at Monroeville, featuring 14 bands from 5 states. The band was named Regional Champion in the finals competition as well as the Award for Outstanding Visual Performance. The Annual Norwin Band Festival took place on September 24th and featured 15 bands from around western Pennsylvania. On October 8th, the band traveled to Deer Lakes High School and captured the 1st place award at the P.I.M.B.A sanctioned event and swept all captions. On October 29th the band traveled to Moon Area High School to compete in the P.I.M.B.A Championships. The band was crowned the P.I.M.B.A Class AAAA Champion, as well as bringing home awards for Outstanding Visual Performance, Music Performance, and General Effect. The band finished its competitive season at the Bands of America Super Regional in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 5th, where the band finished in third place in Class AAA. The band competed against 55 of the finest high school bands in the country in a prelims, finals format event.
