Norwin Students Shine at FCCLA Conference
This spring, members of the Norwin High School FCCLA chapter traveled to the 2026 FCCLA State Leadership Conference at Kalahari Resort and Conference Center, where they spent three days building leadership skills, competing in events, and representing Norwin on the state level.
Centered around the theme“ Glow Together, Grow Together,” the conference encouraged students to strengthen their leadership abilities while making a positive impact in their schools, families, and communities. Throughout the event, Norwin students participated in workshops and STAR Events( Students Taking Action with Recognition), showcasing projects they developed throughout the school year.
Several students earned recognition for their work. Adyson Clemens and Skylar Omlor received a silver medal in the National Programs in Action STAR Event for their Blackburn Center Drive, which supported local victims of domestic abuse. The pair also earned the Power of One National Program Award during the conference.
Alexa Daly also earned a silver medal for her“ Chill Club Night” project in the Focus on Children STAR Event. Her project focused on helping elementary students manage stress ahead of state assessments through calming and effective coping strategies.
Siena Ali and Kendra Zoric competed in the Sports Nutrition STAR Event, where they created a nutrition plan designed to improve athletic performance for a Norwin student-athlete. Their project also earned a silver medal, and the duo served as voting delegates during the conference.
In addition to the students’ individual accomplishments, the Norwin FCCLA chapter received awards for National Programs – Community Service, Outstanding Chapter, and the State Outreach Project.
FCCLA, or Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is a national student organization connected to Family and Consumer Sciences education programs. The organization helps students develop leadership, career readiness, and community service skills while encouraging them to make a difference both in and outside of school. Norwin High School has sponsored an FCCLA chapter since 2010.

Norwin Students Sew Support Pillows for Independence Health Patients
Norwin High School students are making a meaningful impact in the community through a partnership with the Independence Health System Center for Breast Health, creating handmade heart-shaped pillows designed to support patients during recovery.
The unique heart-shaped design is intentionally crafted to fit comfortably under the arm, providing cushioning and protection for sensitive areas throughout the healing process. When used during car rides, the pillows also serve as a gentle barrier between the chest and seatbelt, helping to reduce discomfort and offer added protection on the go.
The project begins in the Norwin High School Fashion Strategies and Design class, where students are introduced to machine sewing through the creation of more than 30“ Sew 4 Good” mastectomy heart pillows. What starts as a hands-on learning experience quickly becomes something more meaningful as students apply their skills to a realworld, compassionate purpose.
From there, members of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America( FCCLA) take over production and expand the effort. In addition to completing the pillows, FCCLA students assemble personal care bags that are distributed through the IHS Center for Breast Health, extending the project’ s reach and impact.
Together, these efforts reflect more than just a service project. The heart pillows have become a symbol of comfort, care, and community support— offering not only physical relief, but also a reminder to patients that they are not alone in their recovery journey.
Norwin Percussion Ensemble Earns National 1st Place Honor
The Norwin High School Percussion Ensemble has earned 1st place in the Small Ensemble Division at the 2026 Black Swamp Percussion Solo and Ensemble Showcase, a national competition featuring high school ensembles from across the United States.
Representing Norwin, students Thomas Casey, Andrew Hodder, Korbin Holliday, and Nick Todaro delivered a standout performance of José / beFORe JOHN5 by Aurél Holló. Judges praised the group’ s energy, musicality, and strong stage presence.
The ensemble’ s achievement reflects its dedication, preparation, and commitment to excellence, marking a proud milestone for the Norwin music program on the national stage.
