How does YOUR library rock? This summer, libraries across the country and our very own Norwin Public Library will be exploring all things musical with a Summer Reading theme of “LIBRARIES ROCK!” Registration began May 21 and programming begins Thursday, June 14 and will wrap up on Thursday, July 26. “Summer offers a unique opportunity for kids to really explore so many different types of books we have here at the library,“ shares Children’s Librarian Barbara Flynn. “They may continue an interest in non-fiction books, or want to read an entire series because they now have the time, or even share the books they love with a friend! I find that many kids will talk with their friends about books they enjoy and then the friends want to borrow the same titles. And it seems there’s always a hot new title that’s in demand, and with all the Westmoreland County libraries being linked together, even if that coveted title is checked out at The easiest way? Have them read something each day! It can be a graphic novel, a magazine, a newspaper or even listening to an Book. Next, keep reading aloud to them, even after they learn to read. Set aside some time each day just to share a story or an article. Let them see you enjoying reading, model that behavior for them. With over seventeen thousand books in the Children’s Library, we are certain to have something to interest your young reader.
