our students participated in the Convestro Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair on April 1, 2016 at Heinz Field. This competition is part of Mr. Brian Nevi’s science research elective course offered at Norwin High School. The fair serves students in grades 6-12, representing 23 counties in western PA and one county in Maryland. There were approximately 1200 students that this year’s fair. The following students received recognition for their hard work: Norwin High School Hayley Lovett (Grade 11).............. Scholarship to Harrisburg University of Science and Technology $5000 per year scholarship ($20000 total) to Carlow College (only 3 of these scholarships were awarded) Sydney Schock (Grade 12)............ Scholarship to Harrisburg University of Science and Technology $2000 per year scholarship ($8000 total) to Geneva College (only offered to 2 seniors at the fair) Norwin Middle School (Dr. Connie Palmer assisted Cecilia) Cecilia Felder (Grade 8) ................. Third Place – Consumer Science/Math – Intermediate FedEx Sponsor Award Perseverance Reward Invitation to the Broadcom Masters Middle School Program in Washington D.C. Norwin High School Science Olympiad Team C ongratulations to the Norwin High School Science Olympiad team who earned a ticket to States for the second year in a row at the regional competition at Cal U. The following students medaled in the top 4 out of 23 teams at the competition: 4th Place Electric Vehicle: Khang Hoang and Sarah Lengel Fossils: Jess Brandon and Josh Ligus 3rd Place Experiment Design: Noah Mackenzie, Helena Richie & Jess Brandon Hydrogeology: Jess Brandon and Emily Henderson 2nd Place Astronomy: Helena Richie and Noah Mackenzie Game On: Tori Carrick and Sarah Lengel Wind Power: Ana de la Fuente and Tori Carrick Wright Stuff: Khang Hoang and Charlie Blenko Plus special recognition in the “5th Place Again” category.
