Exploring Planetary Rotation with Sphero Robots in Fifth Grade
In fifth grade, students recently explored space concepts, including planetary rotation and revolution. Students accepted the challenge of creating a program to have the Earth orbit the Sun, both represented by Sphero robots. On their iPad, students programmed and modeled planetary movements, simulating how celestial bodies orbit and rotate. By adjusting speed, direction, and path, they gain a hands-on understanding of concepts that can otherwise be abstract. This STEM-based activity integrated coding, physics, and astronomy, making learning both interactive and inquiry-driven.

Effective integration of technology enhances teaching and learning by making lessons more interactive, personalized, and student-centered. Through professional development, lesson modeling, and ongoing support, Norwin’ s Instructional Technology Support Teachers empower their colleagues to use digital tools with confidence and creativity. By working together and incorporating activities like these mentioned above, instructional technology fosters creativity, problem-solving, and digital literacy. These hands-on experiences not only deepen student understanding but also prepare them to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Celebrating Read Across America
During the month of March, schools across the country celebrate Read Across America week. It is a week dedicated to promoting literacy in schools. Students across the District enjoyed several activities throughout the week including lining the halls to read, wearing crazy hats and pajamas, and participating in a read-a-thon. In February, Hahntown Elementary hosted its annual Reading With the Stars night. Members of the Norwin Community visited the school to share their favorite books with students. The evening ended with a performance from the magician, Professor Steve. What a great way to kick off Read Across America Week!
