Last month , SEAL students in grades 3 through 6 were joined by the high school and middle school Girls Who Code clubs to engage in STEM learning at Hillcrest Intermediate . The morning session allowed time for the Girls Who Code to share activities that students could experiment with , including building an Operation game using MakeyMakey kits , utilizing Micro : bits to develop a step counter , and playing a round of mini golf with a Sphero Robot .
In the afternoon , students switched roles , and the elementary and intermediate students presented activities centered around Jimu robots , AR / VR , SmaLLab , K ’ nex kits , and Perler beads . A highlight of the day was a tactile CodeJumper lesson taught by high school senior Angelina Angelcyk , who demonstrated that computer science is accessible to all students . A visit from the Norwin WORKS ! students rounded out the day and provided a fun afternoon of engaging in STEM activities . These students are now able to share these resources with their peers throughout the district as we continue to expand STEM learning at Norwin .
