Working Together to Create a Positive School Environment
This year, the Norwin School District begins its fourth year working with the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is one of the world’ s most widely researched and implemented school-based bullying prevention initiatives, founded by Dr. Dan Olweus. Norwin has adopted a common definition of bullying and four key principles to promote a positive school environment for all students in grades K-12. With common language and guiding principles, the program has been implemented with students, staff, parents, and the Norwin community.
Each year, the message has been shared with key stakeholders in our educational community. Beginning with teachers and students, the program has worked to provide information to parents, preschool programs, and other community organizations to work to establish a cohesive program. The work will continue in each building to provide students with tools, as well as continued work with parents and the community at large.
The Royal Stew Crew Continues to Build Community at Stewartsville orwin
NORWIN SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS
The Royal Stew Crew is back at Stewartsville Elementary for another year of teamwork, character-building and school spirit! Now an established part of the school community, this schoolwide positive behavior incentive program brings students and staff together through friendly competition and shared experiences.
Students and staff are organized into five royal houses— Monarchs, Nobles, Dukes, Emperors and Majesties. Throughout the school year, the houses work together to earn points by demonstrating the character traits that are important to the Stewartsville community: respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, courage, honesty and perseverance.
Each month, students focus on a different character trait and have opportunities to put that trait into action throughout the school day. House Pods bring students together across grade levels, providing opportunities to build relationships, practice leadership and collaboration, and celebrate positive choices.
At the end of each month, the five houses compete for a special house celebration, recognizing the students and staff who have helped their house reach its goals. More than just a competition, The Royal Stew Crew is designed to create a strong sense of belonging and encourage students to support one another.
Through the program, Stewartsville continues to foster a positive, inclusive school culture where students are encouraged to lead, make a difference and demonstrate the character traits that help make their school community stronger.
