Senior Citizen Classes Available at NO CHARGE .

Technology skills and smartphone usage have become an important part of daily life for Americans of all ages , including senior citizens .
As a way of saying thanks to our senior citizens , Norwin School District is pleased to offer a variety of classes at NO COST to residents who are 62 and older . Classes are available for Norwin School District residents who live in Irwin Borough , North Irwin Borough , or North Huntingdon Township . Proof of residency is required .
The classes have been customized specifically for senior citizens . Mr . Jared Schultz will teach technology classes and Mrs . Laura Swick , who are Norwin technology support teachers . Norwin High
FALL 2024 CLASS OFFERINGS
School students will help facilitate in order to lend helping hands when needed . This is an easy and casual way for older adults to learn about their technology .
Please register by submitting the form provided on the following page . Available class seats will be provided on a first-come , firstserved basis . In the event that a maximum class size is reached , registrants will be placed on a waiting list with the possibility of additional class dates being added .
All classes will be held at Norwin High School , 251 McMahon Dr ., North Huntingdon , PA 15642 .

HOW TO AVOID TECHNOLOGY SCAMS Thursday , November 14 , 2024 from 3:30-5:30 p . m ., Norwin High School
According to the FBI ’ s 2022 Internet Crime report , over 80,000 people over the age of 60 were victims of online fraud in that year alone reporting over $ 3.1 billion in losses . In this class , you will learn about current scams and how to protect yourself . Course topics include , but are not limited to , the following :
• Identifying signs & indicators of fraudulent activity to prevent becoming a victim
• Recognizing common themes of deception
• Recognizing uncommon requests for payment / money transfers
• Becoming aware of how fraudulent activity can happen on common communication platforms and social media sites
• Learning identity theft prevention measures
The District is partnering with the North Huntingdon Township Police Department to provide this course . A device is not required for this course .
IPHONE INTERMEDIATE
Class meets Thursday , January 16 , 2025 from 3:30-5:15 p . m ., Norwin High School
This class is for those who are familiar with the basic functionality of the iPhone and ready to do more with the device . Please bring your iPhone to this class . Course topics include , but are not limited to , the following :
• iPhone accessibility tools
• Advanced Settings
• Advanced Control Center features
• Using Safari Reader tools
• Making video calls
• Organizing apps
• Group texting and communication
• AirPlay and AirDrop

IPHONE BASICS Class meets Thursday , December 12 , 2024 from 3:30-5:15 p . m ., Norwin High School
This class will teach you useful iPhone features to make life a little easier . Please bring your Apple iPhone to this class . Course topics include , but are not limited to , the following :
• iPhone basics including buttons , gestures and typing
• Finding and installing apps
• Browsing the internet
• Making video calls
• Taking photos with the iPhone
• Configuring settings
