Through continuous collaborative and individual efforts , the Norwin School District receives numerous grants each year . Many of these grants are written by the District ’ s incredible teaching staff .
Among the grants received for the 2022-2023 school year were two awards from the Highmark Foundation School Grants and Awards Program . Written by Sue Schehr , the first grant focused on The Peaceful Playground , a recess kit to be used as an extension of the existing playground equipment at Stewartsville Elementary School . This new , colorful space will provide an inclusive area for all students to play . Students can interact with their peers by engaging in new activities and games .
“ We are very excited to receive the grant for the Peaceful Playground ,” said Sue Schehr . “ I am thrilled that the extension to our playground will reach about 430 students !”
In addition to physical activity , The Peaceful Playground will promote positive social interactions between students by enhancing new skills and teamwork during the school day . Through additional and purposeful instruction on using these materials , students will learn good sportsmanship , collaboration skills , and problem-solving strategies .
The second grant received from the Highmark Foundation benefited the SPARK Active Classroom initiative . This grant , written by Sarah Costa , will support
