That’s why we’re committed to off ering you easy access to good health fundamentals — like preventive screenings for the three leading types of cancer aff ecting our community and nation: breast, colon, and lung. “Preventive screening — and early detection — saves lives,” says Mark O’Hern, president of UPMC McKeesport. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of screenings so doctors can fi nd and treat cancer at their earliest stage of development.” All three types of cancer screenings are available at UPMC McKeesport — each aimed at helping to keep our community as healthy as possible. Beating Breast Cancer One in eight women in the United States can expect to be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Experts agree that regular mammograms are the best way for women over the age of 40 to detect breast cancer early, when it’s most treatable. Magee-Womens Imaging at UPMC McKeesport off ers a range of services, including: • Screening mammography • Diagnostic mammography • Breast ultrasound • Breast ultrasound core biopsy We also off er bone loss testing — known as a bone densitometry (DEXA) — which is used to identify osteoporosis. Our highly trained technologists use state-of-the-art equipment to off er digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography). Tomosynthesis technology creates a 3D image of the breasts that helps doctors to see inside the breast more clearly. As it is our standard of care, we are pleased to off er this technology to all of our patients. Breast imaging services are available Monday through Friday and select Saturdays.
