FRSD: Best Communities for Music Education Award
The Franklin Regional School District( FRSD) was once again honored with the Best Communities for Music Education( BCME) Award from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding support and commitment to music education. Recipients of the 2026 BCME Awards were selected through a comprehensive application and review process that evaluates key indicators, including funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities and community support.

FRSD Broke Ground on its Tennis Courts
The Franklin Regional School District( FRSD) broke ground to redevelop the new tennis courts in mid May. The redevelopment of the tennis courts is a part of a larger facilities initiative to provide safe, modern, and inspiring spaces for students and the community. With these updates, all students will have access to resources that will support college and career athletic opportunities, enhance physical education opportunities during the school day, and expand opportunities for community use and involvement.
Kindergarten students at Franklin Regional Primary School( FRPS) rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty during the school’ s annual butterfly garden planting project, made possible through the continued support of the Murrysville / Export Rotary Club, on Wednesday, May 13.
Each year, Rotary members work alongside students to plant flowers in the school’ s butterfly garden while teaching the district’ s littlest learners about gardening, pollinators, and the important role butterflies and bees play in the environment. The hands-on experience gave students an opportunity to connect classroom learning with nature while helping beautify the school grounds. A special part of the tradition begins months before planting day, as Rotary members Noreen and Jim Olszewski carefully start flower seedlings from seed in their basement so the kindergarten students have plants ready for the garden each spring. ranklin Regional

FRSH Students Volunteered at Local Farm
Franklin Regional Senior High( FRSH) School students visited the Frescura Dairy Farm in Latrobe, PA on Tuesday, May 12, where they teamed up with owners Todd and Marla Frescura and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy to plant 260 trees / shrubs on 1.6 acres of land.
The goal was to restore the riparian buffer zone along the headwaters of Sewickley Creek, which runs through the property. During the planting process, students learned about different varieties of trees and shrubs, riparian buffers, water quality, and the workings of a dairy farm( baby calves included).

FRMS’ s Production of Frozen Jr.
The Franklin Regional Middle School( FRMS) Performing Arts Class proudly presented Disney’ s Frozen Jr. on Thursday, May 7th, and Friday, May 8th. The production captivated audiences with a story that reminds us of the importance of love, courage, and being true to who we are. Students, both on stage and behind the scenes, were praised for embodying these themes through their mutual support, encouragement, and dedication throughout their musical journey from practices to showtime. Whether performing under the spotlight or working behind the scenes, their contributions made the production something truly special.
FRSH Students Earned National Journalism Recognition
Students from Franklin Regional Senior High School( FRSH) earned national recognition in the annual journalism contest sponsored by the National Federation of Press Women for excellence in journalism, communications, and media-related work as part of the organization’ s prestigious annual competition, which recognizes outstanding achievement from communicators across the country. The competition highlighted exceptional work in writing, photography, design, multimedia, and other communication disciplines, showcasing the talent and hard work of student journalists nationwide.
