“We believe the location will be a key to
our success. There are so many savvy local
professionals working from home in this
area. The Ahfis gives them the professional
space steps away from the area’s best
restaurants and shops. The hours added to
your day by avoiding Parkway East traffic
is just a bonus,” says Sue Cavrak. “Who
wouldn’t want to work here?”

four winning projects each year.
GIRL SCOUT TROOP TO
RECEIVE STATEWIDE
RECOGNITION FOR
VETERANS’ MEMORIAL
GARDEN
Girl Scout Troop 24142 of Delmont
received a $500 cash prize and a framed
certificate as a winner in the 2018 Youth
Awards Contest of the Pennsylvania State
Association of Township Supervisors
(PSATS).
The troop received its award March
8, during the annual convention of the
Westmoreland County Association of
Township Officials held at Stratigos Banquet
Center in North Huntingdon. Scott Coburn,
PSATS Chief Information Officer, presented
the award.
Silver Award candidate Rebecca Shissler
created a veterans’ memorial at Eastview
Union Cemetery. The memorial includes
a granite bench decorated with an original
design by Shissler, a 25-foot flagpole,
inscribed pavers, a garden, and an outdoor
bulletin board/information kiosk. The
project included:
• meeting with local government officials,
business owners, veterans groups, and
the cemetery board for approval and
advice
• soliciting community donations of more
than $3,700
• working with the cemetery director to
identify the graves of 243 veterans and
create a color-coded map of the
gravesites for the information kiosk
• helping to plan a dedication and
invocation ceremony for the completed
memorial, with the whole troop in
attendance.
Made with donated fabric and batting, each
quilt is labeled with the Piecemaker’s name and
address. Still going strong, the group has eight
more quilts in production.
The Piecemakers also regularly sew skull
caps, head coverings to ease the discomfort
of hair loss due to treatments, and port packs,
small, cushioned pressure-absorption devices
that attach to seat belts. This group, mostly
comprised of seniors, has sewn for various
mission trips to Haiti, including one project for
which they produced more than 300 backpacks
(cinch bags) for the school at the LaCroix
Mission in Haiti.

BLESSED PIECEMAKERS
DELIVER HAND-SEWN
QUILTS
On Feb. 18, the Blessed Piecemakers,
from Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church,
delivered 11 hand-sewn quilts to the UPMC
Hillman Cancer Center in Monroeville.
The 50-inch square quilts will be given
to patients upon their first arrival for
chemotherapy treatments.
“The quilts help to make their visits more
comfortable and to encourage them as they
are wrapped in love,” says Joyce Holben, a
member of the group.
The Murrysville Woman’s Club held its
Annual Fashion Show at the Lamplighter
Restaurant on Apr. 13. Fashions were
provided by Chico’s in Monroeville, and the
event included a brunch and many beautiful
baskets for the Chinese auction. All proceeds
go to local charities including the local fire
departments, Murrysville and Delmont
libraries, Loaves & Fishes, Meals on Wheels,
and the Blackburn Center, just to name a few.
The models for the fashions were members of
the club, and Christie Stanislaw, a Mary Kay
representative, did their make-up. n
