home, two Penn Township sisters opened
The Ahfis, a creative coworking space in
Murrysville, in May.
The Ahfis (pronounced like, and with
a creative nod to, TV’s “The Office”) is
located at the Blue Spruce Shoppes, 222
Blue Spruce Way. It is female-owned—by
sisters Deb Cavrak and Sue Cavrak—
female-designed, and female-managed, with
the goal of uniting a vibrant professional
community in the area.
The Ahfis held a grand opening bash on
May 1, International Workers Day.
The 2,000-square-feet, creatively inspired
workspace is ideal for local small business
owners, remote workers, consultants,
freelancers, and nonprofits who couldn’t
otherwise justify the many expenses of
a traditional office. Coworking provides
them with the amenities, networking, and
sense of community they need to thrive as
professionals.
“I’ve worked from a home office for the
past five years,” says Deb Cavrak. “Aside from
distractions like my dogs barking every time
I have a phone meeting, working from home
is isolating. The desire to belong to a work
community again is what sparked the idea
for a much-needed coworking space here in
the ‘burbs.”
The Ahfis features flexible workspaces,
dedicated desks and glass-front secured
offices for an all-inclusive membership
fee. Free Wi-Fi, coffee and popcorn bar are
provided to members. In addition to a café,
lounge and a phone booth, the space boasts a
modern conference room and an industrial-
chic event space rentable hourly. Monthly
workshops and networking opportunities for
the community are also planned.
