RECORD-BREAKING 7,600 + PARTICIPANTS FOR THE 34TH YMCA OF GREATER PITTSBURGH TURKEY TROT
More than 7,600 people celebrated Thanksgiving by participating in the 34th annual YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot , presented by UPMC Health Plan .
Runners and walkers from 42 states , Canada , and the U . K . gathered on Pittsburgh ’ s North Shore to support YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank .
The event featured multiple races , festive costumes and a food drive hosted by Peoples Gas . Proceeds and donations are helping to brighten the holidays for those in need , showcasing Pittsburgh ’ s spirit of generosity and togetherness .
CHAPMAN CORPORATION RECEIVES 2024 GOVERNOR ’ S AWARD FOR SAFETY EXCELLENCE
Chapman Corporation of Washington , PA , a leader in industrial construction services , received the prestigious 2024 Governor ’ s Award for Safety Excellence from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry . Presented at the Governor ’ s Occupational Safety & Health Conference , the award recognizes Chapman ’ s innovative safety programs , including the 3D Lift Plan and Finish Strong Program , which have contributed to more than 3 million hours worked without a lost-time injury in four years .
Chapman ’ s safety achievements , including 119 Zero Injury Safety Awards and the 2023 Thomas J . Reynolds Award , set a benchmark for workplace safety . This recognition underscores Chapman ’ s 75-year commitment to protecting employees and fostering a culture of safety excellence .
LOCAL MOTHER TRANSFORMS TRAGIC LOSS INTO BETTERING THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS OF KIDS
Noelle Conover turned her profound loss into a lasting legacy , creating Matt ’ s Maker Space to honor her son Matt , who passed away from cancer in 2002 at age 12 . Inspired by Matt ’ s love for building and creativity , the first Maker Spaces were established in the seven Mt . Lebanon elementary schools .
These spaces became hubs of innovation , allowing students to explore hands-on learning in science , technology , engineering , arts , and math . Foster Elementary librarian Bridget Bilardi highlighted the impact : “ Students are having experiences Matt didn ’ t get to have , but his legacy lives on through their creations .”
Now , Matt ’ s Maker Space has grown to 45 locations across southwestern Pennsylvania , including schools , a library , and Children ’ s Hospital of Pittsburgh . This remarkable initiative , rooted in Mt . Lebanon , continues to inspire creativity and collaboration for thousands of children and adults each year .
