CALENDAR OF EVENTS
KINDERGARTEN READINESS FOR PRESCHOOLERS
10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 15
Parents and kids will learn some of the social, academic
and classroom skills needed for kindergarten. Have fun
practicing skills you can use here and at home to prepare for
kindergarten success. Registration starts Aug. 1. Ages 3 and
up with caregiver. This program is not intended for children
entering kindergarten in 2019.
NIGHT SKY
8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20
Explore the myth, science, and beauty of the night sky.
Learn about constellations and astronomy, then take your
knowledge outside and directly view the majesty of the night
sky. For kids ages 7 and older. Registration starts Aug. 6.
AESOP’S FABLES PUPPET SHOW
6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21
A puppet show featuring five favorite fables including
“Androcles and the Lion,” “The Woodcutter and the Mermaid,”
and “The Tortoise and the Hare.” Puppets made by Pittsburgh
puppetmaker Cheryl Capezzuti in an adaptation by writer/
director Kellee Van Aken. Ages 3 & up and family.
HALLOWEEN ART FAMILY FUN
2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20
Have some spooky crafting fun at this Matt’s Maker Space
program. For kids in Kindergarten through 2nd grade and
their families. Registration required.
FRIGHT NIGHT!
6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25
Be prepared to be scared! Join us for our annual Fright Night,
a celebration of all things spooky. Costumes are optional, but
highly recommended. Thrills and chills for the entire family,
free refreshments at Franken’s Diner, activities, crafts, and
tons of fun.
WEEKLY/MONTHLY PROGRAMS
TAIL WAGGING TUTORS
7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, and Thursdays, Sept. 5, Oct. 3
Children can read aloud to a furry friend. Therapy Dogs
International trains dog listeners. Registration required in the
children’s library.
LEGO CLUB
4 p.m., Mondays, Sept. 23, Oct. 28
Create Lego structures; each month will be a different theme.
Pre-register. For children ages 7 to 12.
CRAFTERNOON!
4 p.m., Wednesdays, Sept. 11, 18, 25, and in October
Kids ages 4 to 8 can tap into their creative side with
stories and art.
PAJAMA STORYTIME
6:30 p.m., Thursdays, Sept. 12, Oct. 10
Enjoy interactive stories and creative activities in this monthly
evening storytime. Wearing PJs is optional, but fun. For ages
3-6 and family.
TALKING COMICS
3:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3
Do you love comics? Join us as we go beyond the page with
discussion and creation. For kids in grades 6, 7, and 8.
BOOK EXPLORERS
6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15
A fun book discussion group for kids in first and second
grade. Encourages reading comprehension, story structure
and love of literacy while casually discussing the book
and sharing a craft or activity. Book selection will vary to
encompass a wide variety of formats and subjects. It is a great
way to strengthen young readers and foster (or create) a love
of reading.
CHESS CLUB
6:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Sept. 11, Oct. 9
Kids in K-7th grade will learn new moves and strategies and
have fun playing with other kids. All levels of chess play are
welcome, but all players should know how the pieces move.
CRAZY FOR COMICS
6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2
Are you crazy for comics? Then join us as we read graphic
novels, discuss, draw, and create! For kids in grades 3, 4,
and 5. Registration required by checking out the book club
selection prior to the meeting.
