Have fun practicing skills you can use here and at home to prepare for kindergarten success. Registration starts Aug. 1. Ages 3 and up with caregiver. This program is not intended for children entering kindergarten in 2019. NIGHT SKY 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20 Explore the myth, science, and beauty of the night sky. Learn about constellations and astronomy, then take your knowledge outside and directly view the majesty of the night sky. For kids ages 7 and older. Registration starts Aug. 6. AESOP’S FABLES PUPPET SHOW 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21 A puppet show featuring five favorite fables including “Androcles and the Lion,” “The Woodcutter and the Mermaid,” and “The Tortoise and the Hare.” Puppets made by Pittsburgh puppetmaker Cheryl Capezzuti in an adaptation by writer/ director Kellee Van Aken. Ages 3 & up and family. HALLOWEEN ART FAMILY FUN 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20 Have some spooky crafting fun at this Matt’s Maker Space program. For kids in Kindergarten through 2nd grade and their families. Registration required. FRIGHT NIGHT! 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25 Be prepared to be scared! Join us for our annual Fright Night, a celebration of all things spooky. Costumes are optional, but highly recommended. Encourages reading comprehension, story structure and love of literacy while casually discussing the book and sharing a craft or activity. Book selection will vary to encompass a wide variety of formats and subjects. It is a great way to strengthen young readers and foster (or create) a love of reading. CHESS CLUB 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Sept. 11, Oct. 9 Kids in K-7th grade will learn new moves and strategies and have fun playing with other kids. All levels of chess play are welcome, but all players should know how the pieces move. CRAZY FOR COMICS 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2 Are you crazy for comics?
