FAKE NEWS AND INFORMATION LITERACY
TEEN WORKSHOP

In today’s world, the phrase “fake news” gets thrown around
a lot. But what does that mean? Who creates it and how
does it spread? How can you know what you’re hearing and
reading is accurate and true? From Soviet propaganda to
message boards like 4chan, this class will take teens inside
the wild, devious world of fake news, of present, and past,
and give them the tools they need to fight it. Presented by
the Allegheny Library Association & Public Source.

DUELS & DICE
3 p.m., Thursdays, Oct. 24, Nov. 21, Dec. 19
A monthly hangout for fans of tabletop roleplaying and
collectible trading card games such as Dungeons and
Dragons and Magic the Gathering. Bring your own cards,
minis, and dice to trade, paint, and play. We’ll provide a
dungeonmaster, playmats, and rulebooks.
TEEN OPEN SOUND STUDIO
3:30 p.m., Fridays, Oct. 25, Nov. 22
Once a month, teen musicians, storytellers, poets, and
podcasters are invited to use the library’s iPads, MacBooks,
and unusual instruments for open studio time to work on and
record songs and spoken word material! No registration or
experience is required.
HOUSE OF HORROR MOVIE CLUB
3 p.m., Tuesdays, Oct. 29, Nov. 12, Dec. 10
Kids in 6th grade and up are invited to these teen-run horror
movie nights. Parent permission is required to attend each
film; please pick up an informational brochure containing the
movie schedule and a permission slip in the Teen Space! All
films are rated PG or PG-13.

SPOOKY FAMILY MAKER TIME!

Have some spooky crafting fun at this Matt’s Maker Space
program. For kids in Kindergarten through 2nd grade and
their families. Registration required.

A Matt’s Maker Space Program for school-age children.

THE NATIONAL AVIARY: PENGUINS ARE COOL
10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31
Students discover all 18 species of penguin through a
PowerPoint journey across the globe and learn how these
unique, flightless birds survive in their habitats. Aviary African
penguins take center stage to showcase special adaptations
and behaviors. For kids in grades 1-4. This program is funded
by Matt’s Maker Space Program. Registration is required and
opens December 10 at 9 a.m.
