VICTORY GARDEN GIVEAWAY 2021
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Moon Township Garden Club , a Victory Garden bag giveaway took place in the spring for township residents at a drive-through event . Each bag included vegetable plants grown from seed and four packages of vegetable and flower seeds . As the original Victory Gardens helped during wartime , it was fitting to be aware of the pain and hunger caused by the pandemic and demonstrate the American heart of sharing , caring and compassion . Families were encouraged to share photos of their gardens , and prizes were awarded . KDKA-TV reporters visited the giveaway event and showed a feature on television .
EARTH DAY CELEBRATED , SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED
Over 100 children visited the Moon Township Garden Club ( MTGC ) booth at Moon Park for the Earth Day celebration and received a live ladybug , vegetable and flower seeds , a rock to paint , and a raffle ticket chance to win a birdhouse .
The MTGC Jean Thompson Vernocy Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Akira Regotti , a senior at Moon High School . She received a $ 2,500 scholarship at the club ’ s monthly lunch meeting with plans to study geobiology at Penn State .
