Dalverny Monroeville Arts Council News Art in the Park Springing into a Summer of Art Now that warm weather has arrived after a seemingly never- ending battle with winter, a series of arts activities is on the agenda for those searching for local cultural activities. Monroeville Arts Council (MAC) has a perfect lineup in store to uplift and inspire all ages throughout the community. A variety of noted local artists present art workshops in the Monroeville Public Library each spring and fall. On March 17, Joseph Schildkamp impressed the participants with numerous drawing activities and insights. The workshops are held at no charge (only a $10 materials fee is assessed for non-members) and are geared to enlighten all those attending, regardless of artistic abilities or experience. A second workshop, “Secrets of Drawing a Realistic Portrait,” presented by nationally known artist Lisa Bane will be held on October 20. This will be a rare opportunity to glean portrait drawing tips from an expert. Once the summer weather is in full bloom, a free event is will take place for children of all ages. Art in the Park will delight children and parents on June 9, from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Monroeville Community Park’s Pavilion #5 with a wide variety of art, craft and creative activities. Children may attend for a portion of the day or stay for the entire time. MAC’s July Summer Concert Series is always Drawing Dynamics Workshop with J. Schildkamp at MPL a highlight, with indoor concerts held in air- conditioned comfort at the Gateway Middle School auditorium from 4 to 6 p.m. Concerts, presented with support from UPMC East, will feature these noted groups: July 15 - East Winds Symphonic Band; July 22 - River City Brass; July 29 - Swingtet 8. Additional activities planned for 2018 include a Holiday and Year ’Round Craft Workshop on November 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the MPL, featuring a wide variety of keepsakes and craft projects for adults and youth. Sunrise School Outreach and, with support from Biondi Motors, Gateway High School Awards for seniors entering art or music-related fields are other important MAC focuses each year. A small but energetic group of MAC volunteer members devote their energy to enriching life for others in our area in many and varied ways. Membership is the key to continuing this all-volunteer organization. In today’s world, art, music and crafts can provide a valuable source of enjoyment and escape for many people.
