PHOTOS FROM KIDS’ ART IN THE PARK

One of the best-kept secrets in Monroeville provides uplifting, creative and free events to the community, transforming the town from a busy retail area to one where the arts are promoted to residents of all ages— Monroeville Arts Council!

Led by a small group of inspired volunteers, this group selects popular musical groups, enlists noted and awardwinning local artists, plans exciting projects for children of all ages and abilities, and offers scholarship awards for high school seniors majoring in artrelated fields.
MAC’ s July Summer Concert Series offered a refreshing break, with indoor concerts held in air-conditioned comfort at the Gateway Middle School auditorium
Secrets of Drawing a Realistic Portrait
from 4 to 6 p. m. The concerts were presented with support from UPMC East and featured East Winds Symphonic Band, River City Brass Quintet and Swingtet 8.
Nationally recognized local portrait artist Lisa Bane is scheduled to present“ Secrets of Drawing a Realistic Portrait” on October 20, from 2 to 4 p. m. This art workshop is open to all interested persons as a rare opportunity to glean portrait drawing tips from an expert. Workshops in the Monroeville Public Library Program Room are presented at no charge( only a $ 10 materials fee is assessed for non-members of MAC) and are geared to enlighten all those attending, regardless of artistic abilities or experience.
A Holiday and Year’ Round Craft Workshop on November 17, from 1 to 4 p. m. at the MPL, will feature a wide variety of keepsakes and craft projects for adults and teens. Floral wreaths, designer gift bags, homemade cards, creative jewelry, and other unique items will be created during this afternoon of relaxed crafting enjoyment.
