Ask the Sustainability Director
JESSICA STUTZMAN
As we look ahead to the expiration of our current trash and recycling contract, Township leadership is beginning the planning process for what comes next.
Q: When does the current trash and recycling contract expire and what are the next steps in the process? Director: The current contract is set to expire at the end of March 2027. We are aiming to have a new agreement in place that will begin on April 1, 2027. Near the end of 2026, the Township will issue a Request for Proposals( RFP) for a new trash and recycling service contract. We will be seeking the lowest responsible bidder, which means we’ ll consider both cost and the ability of the company to deliver reliable, high-quality service to our residents, which includes approximately 17,000 homes. illcreek

Q: Will residents have a say in what the new contract includes? How can residents provide their input? Director: We ' re currently gathering community feedback to better understand how the current service is meeting your needs and where there may be room for improvement. We’ ve created a short online survey— it takes about 7 minutes to complete. Your responses will help guide our priorities as we design the new bid specifications. The survey is available on the Township’ s website www. millcreektownship. com, and for those who prefer pen and paper, hardcopies will be available at the front desk of the Township Building. We’ re interested in hearing what you think about the current trash and recycling collection— things like reliability, customer service, bulk pickup, recycling practices, and overall satisfaction. If there are features or services you’ d like to see in the future, this is the time to let us know.
Q: When is the deadline to complete the survey? Director: We ask that all surveys be completed or returned no later than December 15, 2025. The sooner we receive your feedback, the better we can incorporate it into our planning timeline. Your input matters. This is a service that affects every household in our Township, and your experiences— positive or negative— are incredibly valuable as we work to ensure we get the best service possible at a responsible cost.
