Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art . Today it is primarily practiced as an exercise that promotes the flow of “ Chi ” or energy in the body , leading to good health , good balance and a positive mental outlook . The student is energized while doing the exercise and over time , should achieve a higher level of health and a greater sense of wellbeing . Dave and Kathy have more than thirty years experience in Tai Chi practice and teach a 111-posture Yang-Style Tai Chi Form that dates back to the mid-1600s . Loose-fitting clothes that are easy to bend and stretch in are all that are required for these classes .

Advanced & Intermediate Tai Chi This advanced and intermediate class is not for beginners . It is for students who have either completed the form and are certified , or those who have nearly completed the third section of the Tai Chi form being taught .

INTRODUCTION TO QI GONG

Qi Gong ( chee-kung ) is an ancient healing art from China . The art consists of very slow and gentle movements . It will restore and increase your energy , reduce anxiety , improve balance and help you maintain a healthy active lifestyle .

This class is for students who have learned the entire 111- posture form and have received a certificate of completion .

This is a split-level class for new students who have not previously studied the practice of Tai Chi with Millcreek Parks & Recreation , and for those who have completed Section One of our form and are ready to begin Section Two .

CHAIR ASSISTED VINYASA STRETCH

This class is designed for minds that want relaxation and bodies that want to be engaged fully . The Chair Assisted program begins with meditation seated in a chair , and builds to standing postures for strength and range of motion . We then returns to chair seated for stretching and rest . Props including the chair are used during our practice for safety and support . This may be a good first step for new yogis , those returning to their regular practice and those that just want a change .

MULTI LEVEL VINYASA STRETCH

The Multi Level program is designed for minds that want a relaxing experience and bodies that need safe and achievable challenges to strength and range of motion . The Multi Level class allows the student to focus on the breath / movement relationship through the entire practice from meditation to rest . Cues for postures include many levels of modification , allowing the student to feel secure with what their body needs in the moment . Class concludes with restorative yoga postures . Multiple props are incorporated for variety and safety in postures .

" PiloSlide " is an infusion utilizing " core " principles of the Pilates method and " sliding ". This class is designed for intermediate level exerciser . The PiloSlide method emphasizes building strength of the torso while focusing on balance , muscular endurance and flexibility to lengthen the spine and streamline the legs , arms and lift the buttock . This technique is safe , efficient , and effective when executed in a controlled manner .
