When your Florida friends ask why you live up North, you can tell them it’s because of weather like that. It’s also because of our beautiful autumn, with its comfortable sunny days, cool evenings and amazing colors. Is there anything better than a drive along the Lake, through the North East vineyards enjoying the aroma of grapes in the air? How about a stop at a roadside stand for some fresh produce or a visit to a winery or two? OK, so then a little snow comes our way. Big deal. We’ll handle it. This issue of In Millcreek has several helpful hints on how best to deal with that snow and cold heading our way, like driving tips, wintertime fire safety and home security reminders. There are articles on recycling your telephone books, Christmas trees and where all those cans and bottles end up. You’ll also want to stop into the Millcreek Township lobby after Thanksgiving to select an envelope from the Giving Tree to help make Christmas special for a child in our community. Seniors can find the schedule for income tax preparation, driver safety classes and events at LifeWorks. In future issues of In Millcreek, we’ll be providing an update on Embrace Millcreek, the long range plan for our community and results from the survey. We hope you enjoy this issue and all our area has to offer. Brian McGrath, John Groh, John Morgan The Giving Tree Around Thanksgiving, an evergreen tree will appear in the lobby of the Millcreek Township Building. Along with twinkling lights and shiny ornaments, this tree will be decorated with goodwill. The Giving Tree once again will offer Millcreek Township residents a chance to help those who are less fortunate this holiday season. The children and families chosen for our tree come from our community, as the names are collected from our Millcreek elementary schools. These families have reached out for help and support from their community, as they are struggling and cannot afford extras like Christmas gifts for their children. Approximately 200 tags will adorn the tree that list the gender, age, clothing sizes, and a wish list for the child recipient. There will also be envelopes holding the information for families with multiple children for anyone wishing to sponsor those families. Please consider stopping by the Township Building this holiday season to support an individual or family. To participate, simply select a tag or envelope from the tree, shop for that individual, and return the wrapped gifts with the identifying tags to the Municipal Building by December 16, 2016. If you have any questions, please contact Millcreek Township at 841.833.1111.
