Contd . The Gateway District is zoned for mixed-use development . This is exactly what you picture when you think of a walkable and busy main street . Businesses can be located on the bottom and residencies are located on top , creating equal space to live , work , support local businesses and recreate in close proximity to Presque Isle State Park .
 The Gateway District has already attracted $ 3.5 million in RACP grants for improvements along West 8th Street , $ 1 million of demolition funds from the Erie County Land Bank , and a multimillion dollar roadway improvement funded by PennDOT as Millcreek acquires that stretch of 8th St . The Township will continue to leverage its investment to attract other sources of funding from outside the Township .

 The next step will be to release a Request for Proposals to engineering firms to complete the design of the road and pedestrian amenities within the right of way . The firm will prepare the engineering drawings necessary for construction work to begin on these public facilities .
