Excited to go on a vacation this
summer? Don’t forget to secure
your home before you leave. A little
preparation will give you peace of
mind so you can enjoy your trip
without worrying about what might
happen at home.
1. Don’t broadcast your vacation
plans on social media.
2. Lock all doors and windows and
double check them.
3. Leave a foyer light on inside the
home.
4. Leave a front and rear exterior
light on to illuminate the outside near
the home so that unwanted persons
cannot navigate the exterior under
the cover of darkness.
5. Draw curtains or blinds on the first
floor to prevent visibility to the inside.
6. Park vehicles in the locked garage
if you have one.
7. If you do not have a garage, park
your locked car in the driveway near
the home and remove all valuables.
8. Make sure all small valuables
(jewelry, money, electronics, guns)
are separately secured or at least well
hidden.
9. If you have an out building or shed,
lock this
10. Set alarm systems if you have
them.
11. Inform a trusted neighbor of
your departure date and return date
while asking them to notify police if
any suspicious persons or vehicles are
observed.
