MILLCREEK CODE ENFORCEMENT AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
As winter fades and spring 2025 begins , let ’ s review property maintenance . Other than general upkeep , here are some key topics for your reference .
GRASS AND WEEDS
All premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from weeds ( grasses , annual plants and vegetation ) or plant growth in excess of eight inches ( 8 "). This rule does not apply to cultivated gardens , trees , flowers and shrubberies . It is important however to properly trim your bushes and trees , especially where they could block the address of your residence or business , or impede you or your neighbor from having a clear line of sight to safely back or pull out of a driveway .

SWIMMING POOLS
Swimming pools shall be maintained in a clean and sanitary condition , and in good repair . If you plan to purchase a swimming pool , there are a few things you should know .
A pool may be located only in the rear yard or side yard of the property on which it is an accessory use . The pool , including any above-ground decking , shall not be located closer than 7 feet from any property line of the property and not closer than 10 feet from the boundary of any public easement affecting the property . Swimming pools containing water more than 24 inches in depth shall be completely surrounded by a fence or barrier at least 48 inches in height above the finished ground level measured on the side of the barrier away from the pool . Gates and doors in such barriers shall be self-closing and self-latching . Where the self-latching device is a minimum of 54 inches above the bottom of the gate , the release mechanism shall be located on the pool side of the gate . Self-closing and self-latching gates shall be maintained such that the gate will positively close and latch when released from an open position of 6 inches from the gatepost . SMOKE ALARMS
With spring comes Daylight Savings Time . In addition to our traditional reminder to change your batteries when you change your clock time , remember these important rules about smoke alarms as well :
If you own a multi-floor house , each floor within your house , including your basement or cellar shall have a smoke detector ( crawl spaces and uninhabitable attics are excluded ). Smoke detectors shall be located on the ceiling or wall outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of bedrooms . See the smoke alarms manufacture ’ s user manual for installation instructions . Smoke detectors shall be located in each room used for sleeping purposes .
