This local history museum was the home of seven generations of Gifford- Blanchfield family members , built in 1839 by Gershom and Lucy Gifford . It offers temporary and permanent exhibits highlighting Harborcreek history , programs and special events , tours , and a research library . A new educational pavilion on the grounds will allow even more community programs and events in the future .

There are plenty of paths to explore the beauty of this natural area and a variety of environmental education programs for all ages . The Tom Ridge Environmental Center is dedicated to teaching visitors about Presque Isle and its many inhabitants , related research , conservation efforts and promoting environmental awareness .

This area was once commonly called Sturgeonville based on one of its first families , which started with the Sturgeon brothers , William and Jeremiah , in the late 1700s . The Sturgeon House , restored by the Fairview Area Historical Society for use as a museum , was home to one of Jeremiah ’ s sons , Robert , and was likely built around 1838 . There are open hours on Tuesday afternoons March through early December , along with special events and society meetings throughout the year , or call to schedule a tour or for genealogical research .

On the grounds of the former New York Central Railroad passenger depot is this museum dedicated to sharing the history and experience of railroading in the region , both past and present . There are historical locomotives and other train cars , trains passing by on the nearby CSX / NS mainline , and special events , plus ongoing repair and restore projects .

Completed in 1873 for $ 15,000 , this stately lighthouse and brick home highlights the shoreline and stands about 57 feet tall . It served as the quarters for lighthouse keepers until 1944 , and still serves as a working aid to navigation . The lighthouse is open seasonally to view and tour .
