With 20,889 visitors / transactions to the Millfair Compost Center in 2022 , residents and landscapers were able to divert the following from the Lakeview Landfill . 4,809 cubic yards of leaves ( 1,202 Tons ) 14,927 cubic yards of brush ( 3,732 Tons ) TOTAL – 19,736 cubic yards of leaf / brush organics ( 4,934 Tons ) 10,000 pounds of food waste from the organics drop off program illcreek

Composting is recycling in its truest form . From the brush and leaf material collected last year , the Millfair Compost Center was able to process and distribute 7,151 cubic yards of product back into the community .
According to the Environmental Protection Agency , composting has many benefits ! Enriches soil , helping retain moisture and suppress plant diseases and pests . Reduces the need for chemical fertilizers . Encourages the production of beneficial bacteria and fungi that break down organic matter to create humus , a rich nutrient-filled material . Reduces methane emissions from landfills and lowers your carbon footprint .
