Millcreek Township Emergency Management and Code Enforcement Department would like to inform you of a very special event coming to the area . The annual PSP Christmas Shop With A Hero Event is giving back to children in the Millcreek area . Each child will be given the opportunity to shop with a local hero ( military , EMS , firefighters , nurses , and law enforcement ). Each child will have $ 100 to spend on Christmas gifts for themselves and / or family members . After the event the children will have the opportunity to wrap their gifts and enjoy Christmas festivities . Walmart will supply each child with lunch before they are transported back to their school . The Shop with a Hero event is made possible through Walmart grants and community contributions . ✓ Make sure smoke and CO detectors are working . Check batteries and expiration dates .
✓ Replace furnace filters to help with heating system efficiency .
✓ Windows and doors should be weathertight .
✓ Check roofs for missing shingles or need of other repairs .
✓ Clean chimney and exhaust vents for heating appliances .
✓ Check home and other structures for signs of deterioration including cracks and holes to prevent insects and / or other vermin from entering .
✓ Ensure plumbing pipes are well insulted to prevent freezing . Know where your water shut offs are .

Clear leaves and branches from roofs , gutters , porches , and decks . Remove dead plants , leaves and branches at least 10 feet from your home . Never park your vehicle over a pile of leaves . Heat from the exhaust system can ignite leaves . Trim shrubs and other landscaping away from house wall . Clear yard debris from beneath decks . Properly store and recycle yard waste material .
