ASK THE RECYCLING COORDINATOR:
Q: My husband and I do not produce a lot of garbage each week and I was wondering if there was a Pay-As-You-Throw-Option available in Millcreek that I could sign up for instead of the Regular Quarterly Billing through Advanced Disposal?— Julie C.
A: Advanced Disposal is the contracted hauler for both recycling and trash generated at ALL residential homes( 4 units or less) within Millcreek Township. As established by the Millcreek Solid Waste & Recycling Codes( Chapter 110), ALL residents are required to maintain an active account with Advanced Disposal for curbside collection either through Regular Quarterly Billing or using the Pay-As-You-Throw, Per Bag Program. Let’ s take a look at the latter program offered by Advanced Disposal:
Millcreek Township’ s Per Bag Program Offered Through ADVANCED DISPOSAL
BENEFITS:
• Cost savings( The less frequently the trash is placed at the curbside, the cheaper your trash bill will be!)
• Trash / recycle collection day remains the same
• Continued collection of unlimited recycling weekly
• Participation in Millcreek scheduled leaf / brush collection weeks( See Millcreek Township Calendar.)
• Decreasing the amount of garbage sent to the Greentree Landfill
4 STEPS TO SIGN UP: 1. Call Advanced Disposal at 1-844-415-5970 to switch service from Regular Quarterly Billing to the Per Bag Service.
2. Next, stop into the Millcreek Township Building( 3608 West 26th Street) with CHECK OR CASH ONLY to finalize the transition by purchasing the established tan garbage bags for the program from the Township.( The Millcreek Township Building is the ONLY outlet available for purchasing the tan garbage bags for Millcreek Residents. Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.)
3. At the Township Building, the cost is $ 4.50 per bag. Bags are sold in bundles of four($ 18.00) or ten($ 45.00). This payment will continue residential service with Advanced Disposal on a pay-as-you-throw schedule. Once service is switched to the Per Bag Program, Advanced Disposal will only collect what will fit into the tan bag.*
4. Residents will no longer receive a quarterly bill from Advanced Disposal once this service is switched over. Residents transitioning in the middle of the quarterly billing cycle will be reimbursed by Advanced Disposal for any unused services.( Reminder – Residents on the Per Bag program will no longer be eligible for the Advanced Disposal Special Collection of Household Hazardous Waste and electronics. Please call 1-866-815-0016 for proper disposal of these materials.)
* ANY TRASH THAT IS NOT ABLE TO FIT INTO THE 33-GALLON TAN TRASH BAG WILL NOT BE PICKED UP! RESIDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS WITH ADVANCED DISPOSAL FOR BULKY ITEMS TO BE REMOVED, WHICH MAY INVOLVE A FEE.
TIPS ON EXTENDING THE LIFE OF YOUR TAN BAG:
• RECYCLE the following items in the recycle bin or toter: Aluminum Cans, Cardboard, Cartons, Glass Bottles & Jars, Junk Mail, Magazines, Newspaper, Office Paper, Paperboard, Plastics # 1-7, and Steel / Tin Cans( Please visit www. advanceddisposal. com for more information on Advanced Disposal accepted recyclables.)
• REDUCE your consumption of items purchased at the store by buying products with less packaging or buying products in bulk!
• REUSE by purchasing items that are reusable instead of disposable as well as sharing goods with a neighbor or friend.
• COMPOST food scraps and yard trimmings in a backyard compost bin and leave grass clippings on your lawn!( Grass clippings are considered trash in Millcreek Township, so consider using a mulching mower instead!)
• DONATE useful items like furniture or clothing to local nonprofit charities instead of throwing them away!
• Maintain a good trash container with lid for storage of garbage between collection weeks.
• Only place tan bag( without the can) out for collection once it is completely full.
PLEASE CONTACT ADVANCED DISPOSAL TO SIGN UP FOR SERVICE OR WITH QUESTIONS REGARDING YOUR ACCOUNT AT 1-844-415-5970.
