TIRE COLLECTION & PAPER SHRED DAY RESULTS ASK THE RECYCLING COORDINATOR: In an effort to curb illegal dumping and identity theft, Millcreek Township and Fairview Township joined together to host the 2016 Millfair Tire Collection & Paper Shred Day on May 21st and May 22nd at the Millfair Compost & Recycling Center. Volunteers collected over 1,015 tires from residents as well as over 14,600 lbs. of paper that was shredded by Pirrello Enterprises Corporation. With the demand for proper disposal of these items, Millcreek Township will continue to host a special collection event each May. Looks for upcoming events online at www.millcreektownship.com or in the Millcreek Township Calendar. A: The Environmental Protection Q: What should I do with a CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light) bulb that has burned out at my home? Agency (EPA) recommends recycling CFL bulbs since they often break when thrown into a trash can releasing small amounts of mercury into the atmosphere. Despite these emissions, the use of CFLs actually helps reduce the total mercury emissions in the U.S. because of their significant energy savings. However, these CFL bulbs and other light bulbs CANNOT be placed into the blue curbside recycle bin. Instead, CFL bulbs can be properly recycled through several programs available to Millcreek Township Residents by calling for an appointment or pickup: • Waste Management At-Your-Door Special Collection Program 1.800.449.7587 FREE for Waste Management customers active on quarterly billing cycle. Residents must call the number listed above for a new collection date and a kit that will be mailed to the home. This kit should then be placed at the front door and NOT at the curbside with regular trash and recycling collection. • Erie County Convenience Center 1.866.815.0016 Available for ALL Erie County Residents. Located at 1624 Filmore Avenue. Appointments must be scheduled through number listed above for open event dates and times. A 35-cent per pound fee is applied for household hazardous waste items. • Hardware & Retail Stores Many hardware stores and other retailers offer free in-store recycling. Please make sure you check directly with the hardware store of your choice before you go. Not all stores in regional or nationwide chains are equipped to recycle CFL bulbs properly! Call first!
