Fireworks Return to Millcreek
Independence Day is a time to celebrate our independence and honor
those who fought to secure it. For 51 years, the Millcreek Parade has been
our Township’s only consistent way to celebrate this wonderful time.
Over the years, fireworks had been added to the celebration at various
places across the Township. Due to the success of other locations, a large
public fireworks display in Millcreek has been absent for some time. This year
was to be no exception; there was no initial plan to put on a public display.
In mid June, Township officials got word that there would be no Boom
on the Bay fireworks on the 4th of July. Much input from the public caused
those officials to look into if it would be possible to pull together a fantastic
fireworks show for the public on such a short notice. Officials approached
the Millcreek Supervisors and started a fever pitch planning effort that
included cooperation from the Supervisors, the Office of Emergency
Management, West Lake Fire Department, Millcreek Police, Gibson Fireworks
of Titusville and local business owners. Due to careful departmental
spending and a donation by the fireworks company, funds were able to be
taken from our existing budget to pay for the fireworks.
Response to the fireworks was overwhelming. Many commented how
great the display was and little traffic congestion there was after the show
due to the multiple viewing locations offered by local business owners. Many
more indicated that they wanted to see the show continue in the future.
Millcreek Supervisors and other Township Officials are already beginning
planning for next year’s celebration which may expand to include more
events. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to next year’s
Independence Day celebration!
