Letter from the Supervisors
Hard to believe it but this exciting summer in Millcreek is coming to a close. We hope you enjoyed the season of parades, festivals, and sandy beaches in our beautiful community. We especially hope you had a chance to take in and enjoy Millcreek Township’ s first community 4th of July Fireworks Display, which could become a new township tradition. With the change of season though come our usual autumn activities here in the township. In this issue you can check out our Fall 2016 Parks & Recreation Program Schedule( summer isn’ t the only fun season in Millcreek!), learn about our leaf & brush collections, see when flu shots will be available in the municipal building, and get details on our special discounts on composting products to help you wrap up some end of season projects around the house.
Also in this issue we are excited to kick off Embrace Millcreek. The goal of this new initiative is to give YOU, the residents of Millcreek, a VOICE in creating a community-driven plan for the future of our township. We hope you’ ll check out our feature article this month to learn more, and also please take a couple minutes to have your voice be heard through our community survey at www. millcreektownship. com / EmbraceMillcreek.

MILLCREEK TOWNSHIP AWARDED TREE CITY USA STATUS
The year 2016 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Arbor Day Foundation’ s Tree City USA program.
Millcreek Township is celebrating its first year as a Tree City USA, recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U. S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
Millcreek Township achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’ s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $ 2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
Trees bring shade to our homes and beauty to our neighborhoods, along
with numerous economic, social and environmental benefits. Trees are also assets to a community when properly planted and maintained. They help to improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.
