2019-2020 Francis McClure Elementary School Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy Francis McClure works in collaboration with parents, families, teachers, support staff, community members, and school and district administration in the organizing, planning, review and improvement of the school’s Title I program and in the planning and review of the Parent and Family Engagement policy. The Parent and Family Engagement section of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA}, Section 1116(b) requires every Title I school develop a written parent and family engagement policy that describes the means for carrying out the requirements of Section 1116. Francis McClure’s Parent and Family Engagement Policy has been developed jointly with and agreed upon by parents and family members of Title I children. Francis McClure conducts meetings for families to formulate suggestions, and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children and on decisions about how to spend parent and family engagement funds. Francis McClure’s Title I funds will be used to pay for reasonable and necessary expenses associated with parent and family engagement activities. Francis McClure Elementary ensures that information related to school and parent programs, meetings and other activities are sent to the parents of all Title I children in a timely manner, in an understandable format and provided in a language the parents can understand, made available to the local community and updated annually in the spring to meet the changing needs of parents, family members and the school. Francis McClure Elementary School will provide the following: A. A rigorous high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the state’s student academic achievement standards. In Reading… • DIBELS (Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Skills) • Kindergarten through 5th grade will use a new Reading series this year entitled Journeys by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. • Wilson Fundations K-2(a description of this program, as well as, parent materials are posted on the MASD web site for parents to view and download) • Supplemental reading programs based on student need for reading intervention groups • 140 minutes (3rd – 5th grade) - 160 minutes (Kindergarten-2nd grade) daily for Language Arts instruction which includes a 40-minute enrichment period across the grade level. • Flexible grouping within classroom • Specific evaluation schedule at each grade level – test data is used to chart progress and drive instruction • Grade level meetings – twice a month • Instruction using baseline data derived from DIBELS, and PSSA Testing • Professional Development courses offered by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and PATTAN. • Professional learning and resources for all staff on the PA Core Stan • Academy of Cultural Experiences A.C.E. offered to all district 4th & 5th graders In Math… • • • • • • K-5 math program, (enVision Math Common Core 2012) DIBELS math assessment (Kindergarten -5th) Minimum of 80 minutes devoted to Math daily Flexible grouping within classroom Instruction using data derived from PSSA, DIBELS, and classroom assessments Professional Development – participation in grade level meetings in order to have continuity across mathematics in all grade levels • Math Enrichment in class, as well as, support by a math specialist as needed Francis McClure will… B. Convene a Title I annual meeting, at a convenient time, which all parents and family members of participating children shall be invited, and encouraged to attend. Francis McClure will inform parents of their schools’ participation as a Title I school and explain the requirements, and the rights for parents to be involved. C.
