Veterans Honored At McKeesport Area High School
The Annual Veterans Day program at McKeesport Area High School was held on Tuesday, November 11th at 4 p. m. in the high school auditorium. The program is held each year as a tribute to those who have served or continue to serve in one of the armed forces: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines or Space Force.
The program featured Superintendent Don MacFann welcoming the audience to the district and thanking the veterans for their service with a story about a veteran he knew and how he helped influence him. Following the welcome, the tribute continued with the AFJROTC guards carrying in the flags for the pledge of Allegiance, and singing of the national anthem. Then, the audience was treated to musical performances from the band, directed by Noah Crawford; orchestra directed by Sarah Persin; and choir
under the direction of Beth Eger. In between as the musicians were moving to set up from one group to the next, the audience was shown short video vignettes of what it means to be a veteran with former and current military explaining their experiences, as well as tributes from others throughout the nation ' s history. Veterans who have served in any battle in any war are encouraged to attend and be honored for their service.
After the 4 p. m. concert, the audience joined the musicians and singers for snacks and drinks in the hallway outside the auditorium. The veterans appreciated the recognition and thanks, and the students’ musical tribute was followed by a chance to talk with those who served when called upon to do so.
