Anchored, Aligned, and Accountable: MASD Prepares for a Year of Growth
MCKEESPORT AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS

While students were enjoying summer break, McKeesport Area School District’ s educational leaders were hard at work preparing for an exciting new school year. Through a series of Principal Summits and Instructional Leadership Network meetings, principals, administrators, teachers, Instructional Coaches, and Department Chairs, and Instructional Data Specialists came together around one shared commitment: to be Anchored, Aligned, and Accountable. These three words represent much more than a theme. To be anchored means that our decisions are grounded in student data, proven instructional practices, and a clear understanding of what our students need.
To be aligned means that everyone— from district leaders and principals to classroom teachers and support staff— is working toward connected goals.
To be accountable means that we are committed to following through, measuring our progress, celebrating growth, and adjusting our approach when needed.
Throughout the summer, MASD principals played a central role in moving this work forward. During collaborative Principal Summits, they examined district and building data, identified priorities, shared ideas, and developed focused plans for their schools. Their leadership is what connects the district’ s vision to the day-to-day work happening in each building.

Our principals know their students, staff members, and school communities best. By working closely with district leaders and the Instructional Leadership Network, they help ensure that district goals become meaningful building goals— and that those goals ultimately reach classrooms and students.
An important partner in this work is MASD’ s Instructional Leadership Network of teacher leaders.
What began as a small group of instructional coaches over 10 years ago has grown into a thoughtfully designed and highly collaborative network of educators representing schools, grade levels, content areas, and specialized programs across the district. The ILN brings together talented teachers, coaches, specialists, and administrators who share one central purpose: to support teachers so that students can grow and achieve.
The partnership between principals and the ILN is essential. Principals provide building-level leadership, communicate the needs of their schools, and help guide the network’ s support. ILN members work alongside principals and teachers to provide resources, professional learning, instructional strategies, and opportunities for collaboration. Together, they are creating a stronger and more connected system of support for educators across MASD.
Research supports this collaborative approach. According to a 2026 report from the U. S. Government Accountability Office, 67 % of teachers said collaborative learning with other educators
