McKeesport Remembers Fallen Veterans McKeesport Maintains Demolition Program
In a continued effort to preserve McKeesport’ s neighborhoods and encourage business development, Mayor Tom Maglicco is persistently seeking grant funds for demolition projects.
Currently, the city is utilizing Community Development Block Grant funding through the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Act 152 funding administered by Allegheny County to raze blighted structures across McKeesport’ s wards. Funds from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection are being utilized by the local redevelopment authority to demolish the former Penn McKee Hotel.
“ We are continuing to remove dilapidated houses and other eyesores from our neighborhoods and our business districts,” Mayor Maglicco said.“ We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but this aggressive approach to demolition has brought us to a place where it’ s time to think about development.”
In recent years, McKeesport has demolished approximately 800 structures. Nearly 50 more are set to come down in the coming fall and winter months.
