Allegheny Health Network’s Canonsburg Hospital
Convenience at a community-based location
Our comprehensive breast care center, for diagnosis
and treatment includes:
• Medical, radiologic, and surgical oncologists, nurses
and clinicians are all certified in their specialties.
• A plastic surgeon is available to discuss mastectomies
and breast reconstruction.
• A genetic counselor can discuss risk factors for women
who have family history of breast cancer.
• Oncology physical therapy is offered to reduce
problems from lymphedema after surgery.
AHN’s Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion houses the
Home for Hope for pre-menopausal women with breast
cancer, supported by the Glimmer of Hope Foundation.
This program acknowledges their special challenges, such
as responsibilities for careers and families. These women
get help from a patient care navigator, who will coordinate
app ointments, a nutritionist, free child care during
treatments, and massage or acupuncture sessions.
A world leader in breast conservation… and survival
AHN surgeons practice minimally invasive surgical
treatments that protect a woman’s general health, and
limit removal to the tumor and small portions of the
surrounding breast tissue. Even when a mastectomy is
needed, AHN surgeons conserve as much healthy tissue
as possible, to retain a natural look or make reconstructive
breast surgery easier.
For breast cancer warriors, with help from AHN experts,
there is hope for the future.

3-D Mammography available
at Canonsburg Hospital
Now there is a revolutionary new tool to make breast cancer
detection easier and more accurate — tomosynthesis or
3-D mammography.
Doctors examine layers of breast tissue which may allow for:
• Finding cancers earlier than 2-D mammography alone
• Greater accuracy in pinpointing size, shape, and location
of abnormalities
• Fewer unnecessary biopsies or additional tests
For these reasons, 3-D mammography is beneficial
for women with dense breast tissue and those with a family
history of breast cancer.
