names for sewage service. To be eligible, applicants must meet income limits set by the federal government. Currently, that means that a family of four earning $ 36,450 or less per year would be eligible. The authority’ s board of directors created the fund to make sure low-income residents have access to adequate wastewater services for their homes.
The fund is being administered for ALCOSAN by Dollar Energy Fund, Inc., which partners with dozens of local social service agencies to process applications. They are taken in person and applicants must provide a copy of their water / sewage bill, Social Security numbers for all members of their household, and proof of the household’ s monthly income. In most cases residents should call in advance for an appointment.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES ANNUAL ENVIRONMENTAL POSTER CONTEST
The Allegheny County Health Department( ACHD) announced today the start of its annual environmental poster contest for all students in Allegheny County who are currently in grades 6 through 8. This will be the health department’ s 18th year holding the contest.
This year’ s theme is“ Bright Ideas for Conserving Energy.” Students are being asked to consider different activities that impact our use of energy on a daily basis. What can they do to conserve energy?
“ We all need to learn ways to practice energy conservation in our everyday lives,” said Health Department Director Dr. Karen Hacker.“ The poster contest is a great way to encourage students to really think about ways they can conserve energy and come up with a unique visual to support their ideas.” Students are encouraged to think about both large- and small-scale solutions to conserving energy. Posters should highlight their ideas and solutions. They will be judged on creativity, accuracy of information, and the strength of the message.
The top three winners will be announced on Friday, April 21, in conjunction with Earth Day celebrations. The winning posters will be presented on the health department’ s web site.
