Remake Learning Days with Hampton Township
School District
The Hampton Township School District,
known for its Tradition of Excellence and
transformative learning environment,
participated in the 2017 Remake Learning Days.
Hampton hosted the Future of Learning Now
from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17
at Hampton Middle School. The event was free
and open to the community.
“Remake Learning Days is considered
the world’s largest open house of hands-on
learning,” says Dr. Michael Loughead, Hampton
Town ship School District Superintendent.
“Remake Learning Days features more than
350 fun and free events occurring across
Southwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia
for youth of all ages. We encourage you to
support the events occurring in schools,
museums and businesses in our region. We
are proud to have participated in this exciting
regional event.”
The Remake Learning Network, renowned
for launching educational innovations and
now recognized nationally, hosted more
than 350 fun and mostly free events from
May 15 through 26 during Remake Learning
Days. Parents, families and kids were invited
to experience hands-on, technology-
infused, engaging learning experiences in
neighborhoods across southwest Pennsylvania
and West Virginia.
“Remake Learning was born out of an
idea to better prepare young students for
the 21st century, and Remake Learning Days
was launched in 2016 to help the adults in
kids’ lives experience for themselves how
much education has changed,” says Dorie
Taylor, Producer for Remake Learning Days.
“Most of our current K through 12 schools
were designed to help students work in a
20th century economy. What’s needed today,
experts and advocates say, is a fundamental
rethinking, a learning revolution to better meet
this generation’s needs.”
This was the first year Hampton participated
in the event. Visitors to Hampton’s Future of
Learning NOW event had the opportunity to
observe students as they demonstrate the
digital learning experiences they have engaged
in during the school year. Hampton Middle
School also unveiled its student-designed,
Mayan-themed escape room.
The District partnered with specialists from
Code Breakers and Carnegie Mellon University’s
Entertainment Technology Center to design
and create the “Mission to Maya” escape room
experience. Gregg Behr, executive director of
the Grable Foundation, was among the visitors
who had the opportunity to escape the Mission
to Maya.
Also that evening, Dr. Loughead presented
a four-year plan for the District’s digital
transformation. “We are excited about our
opportunity to transform teaching and learning
throughout the District,” says Dr. Loughead.
