GREENSBURG YMCA LAUNCHING NEW PICKLEBALL PROGRAMMING
One of the fastest growing sports in America is returning to the Greensburg YMCA . The Y announced new pickleball programming , beginning with a clinic on Oct . 13 followed by pick-up nights on Thursdays , starting Oct . 20 .
“ We are really excited about the return of new pickleball programming ,” says Scott Brown , director of sports and wellness . “ Pickleball has become such a popular sport , and we want to be the designation for it in this area . We have a great facility , in a great location , for indoor pickleball .
“ Our goal is not only to promote the game , but for our members and nonmembers to compete , learn how to play the sport , and enjoy the camaraderie and sense of community our Y offers . Additionally , we want to expose the sport to players of all ages , and even introduce it as a family activity .”
The clinic was held Oct . 13 , from 6 to 8 p . m . at the Y gymnasium , and was run by local pickleball enthusiasts Jacob DePalm and Mike Stewart , Sr . The two discussed the game and rules , and showed participants basic strokes and strategy .
Pick-up games began Oct . 20 and run Thursdays from 6 to 8 p . m . It is free for members , and $ 5 for non-members . There is no registration required .

KEYNOTES MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION
Keynotes is accepting applications for a Music Scholarship Competition that will be held May 13 at the Fine Arts Theatre of Mt . Lebanon High School . Cash awards totaling up to $ 12,000 will be available . Requirements are that instrumentalists must be under 26 years of age as of June 1 , 2023 , and vocalists must be under the age of 30 , and the student must be a full-time music major at a college , university or music school or a graduating high school senior
2017 Scholarship Award Winner accepted for admission as a full-time music major .
