It ’ s been said that a public library reflects the values of the community it serves . If that were true , all public libraries , especially here , would be operating on annual budgets that stretch into the millions of dollars .
This past year ’ s budget for your local public library , GHAL , was approximately $ 864K . This budget was stretched to the max in order to provide the community with :
• more than 640 free programs
• nearly 100,000 items available to borrow
• 5,200 hours of Wi-Fi use
• 30,000 eBooks borrowed
• 24,500 questions received by the help desk
• 5,000 hours of internet computer use
• 2,000 + free books given out
• 12,500 movie rentals
• approximately 35 different magazines and periodicals offered
• dozens of apps and online services
• plus the whole Westmoreland Library network and beyond !
With that , let ’ s take a quick look at some of the upcoming events for Winter 2024 !
