A little over a year ago , AHN Dr . Betsy Burriss was giving birth to her own baby . She ended up having a C-section . A week later she had to be readmitted for post-pregnancy preeclampsia . “ I ’ ve taken care of patients in similar situations , but to experience it yourself , to be sick while taking care of a newborn , gives you a whole new perspective . I understand firsthand the importance of compassionate care from pregnancy through postpartum .”
She ’ s excited to bring her empathy , compassion , and understanding to Forbes . “ Everyone here , and throughout AHN , shares my philosophy of putting patients first ,” she said . “ Making sure they have a good experience — that they feel heard and are getting their issues addressed .”

On another note , she ’ d like to take this time to reinforce the importance of routine Pap smears and mammograms . “ As busy as we all are , it ’ s easy to push them aside ,” she said . “ But , even if things feel normal , small things can be picked up on a routine exam that might be lifesaving at some point .”

We ’ re happy to announce that Dr . Kelsie Mittereder has joined our team in Monroeville . She comes to us from Phoenix where she was OB / GYN Resident Physician at
University of Arizona College of Medicine .
“ When I came out to meet with the group last year , I felt like I was coming home to a place where I belonged ,” Dr . Mittereder said . She chose to specialize in women ’ s health ( and pelvic surgery ) because it allows her to do everything she loves in medicine . “ A lot of people think medicine is just about medicine , but it ’ s also about meeting people where they are in their everyday lives and helping them get where they want to be to achieve their health goals . It ’ s very individualized .”
She ’ s excited to work and collaborate with the East Suburban team . “ Bringing this level of comprehensive care , with every subspecialist anyone would need , to the east side is necessary and innovative ,” she said . “ AHN is at the forefront and working really hard to make sure people in all corners of every community have easy access to the high level of care they need and deserve where they live .”
