Greensburg
Salem students had
the opportunity to
sample a variety of
sports this summer
through a free camp
offered to students
entering 4th, 5th,
6th and 7th grades.
Learning the shot put during Track and Field camp
The program was
designed to provide
student-athletes with a foundation of fundamental skills, knowledge,
character and leadership development, and enjoyment for sports.
Athletes were able to sign up for as many camps as they wished,
as long as the camps were not held at the same time. Athletic
opportunities included volleyball, lacrosse, baseball, girls basketball,
football, boys basketball, softball, tennis, cheerleading, soccer,
wrestling and track and field. Funding from the Jimmy Cook Memorial
Fund provided each student with a camp t-shirt promoting the values
of teamwork, leadership, courage, honesty, respect, perseverance and
the spirit of excellence.
Nearly 180 Greensburg Salem students participated in the sports
camp. Fifth grade Nicely Elementary student Lisa Leeman participated
in volleyball, cheerleading and track and field. “I absolutely loved
playing volleyball!” exclaimed Lisa. “I learned a lot from the coaches at
all of the camps.”

of the kids that participated, but also the expertise of the coaches that
generously gave their time to benefit the entire athletic program,”
said Athletic Director, Lynn Jobe. “It was fabulous
