FOX CHAPEL RESIDENT RELEASES MEMOIR
Former Pittsburgh attorney and Fox Chapel resident Laura Aristidou Candris has traded courtrooms for cobblestone paths in her debut memoir,“ Greek by Osmosis: My Life on a Small Greek Island,” a warm, witty reflection on love, family, and life lived far from home. The book recently reached # 1 on Amazon’ s list of Cyclades Travel Guides, holding the top spot for more than a month.
In the memoir, Candris chronicles her decades-long immersion into the rhythms of a small Greek island after marrying a Greek student, learning to navigate everything from island bureaucracy and homebuilding by fax, to the unspoken rules of“ island time.”
Along the way, she introduces readers to unforgettable characters, humorous mishaps, and the sensory joys of Greek life, including traditional recipes learned at the side of her beloved mother-in-law, Mama Kiki.
Equal parts travel tale and personal reflection,“ Greek by Osmosis” explores what it means to adapt, belong and find beauty in the unexpected. Praised for its humor, heart and vivid sense of place, the book offers readers a charming escape to the Cyclades while remaining grounded in the perspective of a Pittsburgher whose roots— and wit— never quite left home.
