HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS COMPETE IN JUNK KOUTURE WORLD FINALS
Fox Chapel Area High School seniors Raina Guzman and Claire Conti were selected to represent the United States in Ireland at the Junk Kouture World Final.
Their creation was one of 10 chosen from hundreds of student submissions from across the nation. As part of the competition, Raina and Claire used crocheted plastic bags, Styrofoam egg cartons, and repurposed jewelry to create a dress they named“ Ostara.”
The 10 entries chosen for the World Final stood out for their ingenuity, storytelling, and commitment to sustainability. The national competition, based out of New York, was held online in May. The World Final was held in The Helix in Dublin at the end of February.

Kingdom, France, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.
Additionally, Fox Chapel Area seniors Lily McLaughlin and Ayla Ojanen, who made the World Final last school year, made it to this school year’ s national contest. They were assisted by senior Katie Siddons.
Junk Kouture is a sustainable fashion competition open to students ages 13-19 that challenges young people to create high-fashion designs from 100 % recycled materials. The creations showcase the creativity, innovation, and environmental consciousness driving the next generation of changemakers. The competition is organized by Junk Kouture Operations Ireland Ltd. and is the largest sustainable fashion competition for young people.
Elementary classes in the Fox Chapel Area School District celebrated Read Across America Week, an annual nationwide initiative designed to promote literacy, encourage a love of reading, and highlight diverse books for children and teenagers. Established in 1998 by the National Education Association, it often features schoolwide events, guest readers, and themed activities for young students. ox Chapel Area
