• Four members of the high school track team qualified for the 2018 PIAA Track & Field
Championships, including senior Caelen Miller, junior Sarena Seeger, and sophomores
Christian Fitch and Grace Sisson.
• High school junior Lexie Schutzman was named the Most Positive Athlete in Girls Soccer for
the second year in row. She received the award from former Steelers great Hines Ward. Her
story of leadership with students with disabilities captured the attention of producers from
CNN’s “Headline News,” who created a special segment featuring Lexie who finds inspiration

• Kerr Elementary School physical education teacher and high school boys’ and girls’
tennis coach Alexander Slezak was recognized as a “Century Coach” by the United States
Professional Tennis Registry for having 151 wins as a head coach.
• High school wrestler, junior Avery Bursick, was named to the Pennsylvania All-Academic
High School Wrestling second team.
• High school head football coach Tom Loughran was named Coach of the Week by the
Pittsburgh Steelers and was honored at a Steelers game. He was also named the Allegheny
Nine Conference Coach of the Year.
• High school girls’ soccer coach Peter Torres was named the WPIAL Class 4A Section 3 Coach
of the Year.
• The high school girls’ fencing team won first place at the Pittsburgh Interscholastic Fencing
Association Championships.
• Sophomore Donovan Cutchember was named the WPIAL Class AAA Section 3 varsity
wrestling champion in the 220-pound weight class.
• Senior Kate Goodwin and junior Graham Childs were named to All-WPIAL Class AAA lacrosse teams.
• The high school boys’ varsity lacrosse team competed for the first time in the WPIAL playoffs
since the team became an officially-sanctioned WPIAL sport.
• High school athletes continued to be named to prestigious all-star teams and all conference
teams, and were also chosen to participate in all-star games.
• The high school added a new sport, indoor bocce. The bocce team includes an equal number
of students with disabilities alongside their peers that do not have disabilities. In their
inaugural year, the Fox Chapel Area teams enjoyed a successful season and won gold and
silver medals at the countywide championships. Bocce is part of the Unified Sports Program
offered in Allegheny County schools and sponsored by Special Olympics.
